James
I found a passion for photography at the age of 13, when my parents gave me a vintage Yashica Electro 35 Rangefinder camera. Born and raised in Mamaroneck, NY, most folks around my studio have known 'James the photographer' for many years. My favorite high school teacher still displays my framed photo from a creative project as an example of the excellence her students should aspire to (ask me about that story).
When I attended the Rhode Island School of Photography, I was taught by some of the greatest photographers in the world. They taught me to create images correctly in camera (on film!) instead of “fixing them on the computer” like many of today’s photographers do.
My style leans toward a more natural and candid look. I consider my style photojournalistic and contemporary. Often, my candid work involves capturing images from a distance with a telephoto lens. You may not even notice I'm there, but you'll love the photos.
In recent years, I have been tapped by a number of professional photography organizations to teach what I have learned over the course of my career. I truly enjoy this aspect of my work, and I look forward to mentoring the next generation of photographers. I am an active member of the Professional Photographers of America and Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.
Mark
I was excited to receive a Canon Canodate 35mm film camera as a birthday present from my father when I was ten years old. The real magic happened when I used the camera to photograph my gargantuan Siamese cat, Santana. From that moment, I was hooked. I went on to study at one of the premiere photography schools in the world, the Rochester Institute of Technology. Today I’m an active board member of the Westchester Professional Photographers Association, and a member of the Professional Photographers Society of New York.
When I am photographing, my mantra is to be 'everywhere and nowhere'; A friendly, calm, and effective presence. I truly love photographing people. I am focused not only on the beautiful and meaningful images that I am capturing, but also on ensuring that our clients feel comfortable, and are enjoying the experience of sharing their special day with LJ Studios Photography.
When I’m not photographing professionally, I’m spending time with my amazing family: my whimsical wife, Jill, my lovely and hilarious daughters, Lily and Ruby, and my 14-year-old soul dog, Keira.
